It all started in Central Brittany in 1986: Jean-Charles Guichen (16 years old) on the guitar and Fred Guichen on the, diatonic accordion performed for the first time during a 'Fest-noz'. Year after they were joined by two young pipers: Gael Nicol (bombard, biniou) and David Pasquet (bombard), and finally in 1990 by Stephane De Vito a bass guitar player used to play in heavy metal bands. The distance between breton traditional dance music and pop-rock was very narrow in the band's influences and that was the feeling of the audience during their concerts. A new tradition was born as was a new audience for the breton traditional music. Their debut album, a selfproduction, was released in 1992. Two years after a lot of changes will happen to this band which quickly became one of the number one 'fest-noz' bands: they met two figures of the actual breton music: Jean-Didier Gaudry, their producer and Patrice Marzin, executive produvcer and famous guitar player. Together they will release their second album, Breizh Positive which will widden their audience and make them play on stage during pop-rock concerts as well as on traditional scenes. The legend continues in 1996 with their third album (60000 copies sold) in which feature brilliant traditional tunes together with very modern compositions. The band doesn't perform anymore but will remain in every breton heads for a long time. Still, the Guichen brothers continue with a solo career: Jean-Charles Guichen recorded his album which features Laurent Jouin, Jacques Pellen, Soig Siberil, Patrice Marzin, Pat O'May, Gael Nicol, Karine Bono, Sylvaine and Fred Guichen. Fred Guichen recorded La Lune noire together with Jean-Michel Veillon, Ronan Le Bars, Jacques Pellen, Stéphane De Vito and, of course ... Jean-Charles Guichen. The two brothers also play together with Stéphane De Vito quite often on stage, participated to 'AR BED KELTIEK' 20'th Anniversary's Concert. More recently they recorded a new album, 'Mémoire vive' with their new band : 'Guichen Quartet' and Jean-Charles is a member of the PSG Trio
